El-Rufai Left Huge Debt Profile For Us – Kaduna Governor Cries Out.

The governor of Kaduna state, Senator Uba Sani, was at a town hall meeting on Saturday, March 30th, 2024, to give an account of hjs stewardship where he made some staggering revelations about the state of he inherited and some of the challenges he’s facing. Chief among them, governor Sani lamented, is the huge debt profile left by his predecessor, Nasir El-Rufai.

The governor said he inherited a huge debt burden of about $587 million, ₦85 billion. He also added there are 115 contractual liabilities from the immediate past administration, lamenting that these huge debt profile has eaten deep into the state’s allocation.

The governor, however, said he remained resolute in steering Kaduna to the path of progress by managing the meagre resources at his disposal and looking for creative ways to generate more.

Several dignitaries graced the occasion, including traditional and religious leaders, politicians, members of the Organized Labour, civil society organizations, youths and women groups. Also at the occasion were past office holders like the former governor, of the state, Ramalan Yero; a former Chief of Defence Staff, General Martin-Luther Agwai; members of the Kaduna State Executive Council, as well as members of the House of Assembly led by the Speaker, Yusuf Liman.

Members of governor Sani’s cabinet also had opportunities to give an account of their activities so far, including the Commissioner of Finance, Shizzer Bada, who made a presentation on what the state gets from the federal allocation and what is being deducted from it to service the debt left by the past administration.

The governor enumerated the key priority areas of his government, including security, housing, education, healthcare and support for micro, small and medium enterprises.
