ECOWAS will hold an emergency meeting on April 22 to address the 0.5% import levy introduced by Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso on goods from member states.
The levy, which took effect March 28, excludes humanitarian aid. ECOWAS says the move undermines regional trade agreements and will be discussed at the upcoming meeting.
The three military-led countries, now forming the Alliance of Sahel States, had earlier announced their exit from ECOWAS but continue to trade under existing regional protocols.
