Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru, has warned striking workers to return to their duties within 72 hours or face termination. The governor reacted strongly to the industrial action initiated by the state NLC Chairman, Comrade Oguguo Egwu, over the implementation of the new minimum wage, asserting that he has already commenced payment of the wage in October and owes no outstanding salaries, pensions, or gratuities.

He ordered attendance registers in ministries and government offices to track workers’ compliance, pledging payment only to those present. Nwifuru declared he would not negotiate with the NLC Chairman, claiming Egwu is not a state employee.

Reports indicate that some ministries and schools in Ebonyi defied the strike and continued operations.
