Africa’s overreliance on fuel imports has made it a dumping ground for substandard petroleum products, says Aliko Dangote.
Speaking to journalists, the billionaire said this was a key reason behind his $19bn refinery project in Lagos.
“Africa has no business importing fuel,” he said. “We have oil, but we’ve failed to refine it.”
He urged wealthy Nigerians to invest locally, warning that exporting capital weakens the economy.
“You can’t develop Nigeria by keeping your money abroad,” he added.
