The Nigerian Customs Service has intercepted 1,149 jerry cans of petrol, each containing 30 litres, at Kan-Iyaka, a border town in Sardauna Local Government Area of Taraba State.
Valued at N33.7 million, the fuel was seized by the Operation Whirlwind unit under the Adamawa/Taraba Command while being smuggled into Cameroon. Suspects involved in the operation were also arrested.
Addressing journalists in Jalingo, Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi commended the officers for their vigilance, noting a rising trend of petrol smuggling along the North-East border. He warned that such activities cause artificial scarcity, disrupt supply chains, and threaten regional security.
