The Chief Executive Officer of NTA-StarTimes TV, Joshua Wong, has reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening its bilateral relationship with Nigeria through cultural exchange programs, development aid, and collaborative movies.

Speaking during the screening of a Chinese movie dubbed in Hausa at Dafa Community in Kwali Area Council, Abuja, Wong highlighted ongoing initiatives to deepen cultural understanding between the two nations. He revealed that over 40 Nigerians are currently studying in China to gain insights into Chinese culture.

He further emphasized China’s efforts in supporting Nigeria’s development, stating that since 2019, the country has provided various projects to improve the lives of residents in 1,000 Nigerian communities.

“This community now lacks entertainment due to poor electricity and limited access to films, movies, and TV content. This is why StarTimes has been the leading digital TV operator in Nigeria for so many years,” Wong said.

“China and Nigeria are good partners and brothers. We hope this event brings joy to the faces of the Dafa community with the mystery movie and helps them learn more about Chinese culture,” he added.

Wong also expressed optimism about future collaborations between Chinese and Nigerian filmmakers, aiming to produce movies that highlight the cultural ties and shared values of both nations.

The head of Dafa Community, Abdullahi Kajiya, commended StarTimes for its contributions to the area, including the installation of solar lights. He, however, appealed to the federal government to address the issue of electricity in the community to enable residents to fully benefit from programs aired on the StarTimes network.

The initiative underscores China’s role in fostering cultural diplomacy and enhancing mutual understanding with Nigeria through innovative approaches such as localized entertainment and community engagement.
