2027: Amaechi Signals Readiness to Oppose Tinubu

Former Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi says he is open to joining an opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 elections, citing rising hunger and worsening insecurity under the Tinubu administration.

In an interview with the BBC, the APC chieftain said although he remains in the ruling party, he won’t stay silent if the government is failing. “If the government is failing, you don’t support it blindly,” he said.

Amaechi said talks are ongoing with other politicians to form a united front, as Nigerians are suffering. “People are starving. I myself feel the hunger,” he added.

While he hasn’t declared any ambition, Amaechi said he may still contest if he believes he can make an impact. He also blamed growing insecurity and insurgency on poverty and desperation.

His remarks follow similar coalition talks by Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Nasir El-Rufai, as more political figures push to challenge Tinubu in 2027.
