Suspected cattle rustlers have killed 18 cows and stolen about 130 others in Howl community, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in the state, Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, confirmed the incident. He said the attack happened on Wednesday and the missing cattle have not been found.
“We’ve been searching for the cattle since Wednesday. So far, 130 have been rustled, and 18 were shot dead,” Babayo told reporters.
He alleged that members of the Ron ethnic group were responsible for the attack. However, the Ron Kulere community has denied the claim.
In a statement, Barr. John Apollos Maton, Secretary of the Ron Kulere Jos and Environs group, described the allegation as “a cover-up to incite violence” and called on security agencies to remain alert.
Both the police and Operation Safe Haven are yet to comment on the incident as of the time of this report.
