A fire outbreak from a tanker has destroyed a portion of the Okokomaiko Police Station, located within the Lagos State Police Command.

The incident occurred when the tanker caught fire while offloading diesel into the storage tank of a hotel adjacent to the police station. Eyewitnesses reported that the fire started in the vehicle’s engine, rapidly spreading to the storage tank and engulfing parts of the police facility before any intervention could be made.

The chaos caused a stampede, as both hotel staff and police officers stationed at the facility scrambled for safety to avoid being trapped in the inferno.

One eyewitness, identified only as Tolupe, recounted that the truck driver abandoned the vehicle as the fire intensified and fled the scene. “Most of the policemen serving in the division also fled to safety,” he added.

The extent of the damage to the police station and surrounding areas remains unclear, as authorities are yet to release an official statement on the incident. Investigations are expected to begin once the fire is fully contained.
