The Yoruba community in the Federal Capital Territory says only unity will help move Nigeria forward.
The community said this yesterday at its townhall meeting held in Abuja, with the theme ‘Dividends of Democracy: The Factors of People, Place and Politics in Nigerian’.
The event was attended by all the Yoruba Obas across the six Area Councils in the FCT and the Aare (President) of Yoruba Muslims in Kano, Alhaji Mansur Salaudeen Lafenwa, among others.
Chairman, Council of Yoruba Obas in FCT, Dr Olusegun Salau, said only unity would ensure a prosperous Nigeria.
Also speaking, Lafenwa said: “My advice to Nigerians is to see ourselves as one. The two factors bringing us down is tribalism and religion. We should know that Allah says that the issue of tribe is for identification. We should not use that as an instrument of division”.
On his part, the acting president, Yoruba Community, Abuja, Murtala Ibrahim Agboola, said the unity and togetherness of Yoruba would lift their image, promote their cultural heritage and value system to the delight of others ethnic nationality within FCT-Abuja.
Also, Chairman, Council of Elders, Yoruba Community, FCT, Engr. S. A. Adeshina, said that one of the reasons for the meeting was for the Yoruba in the FCT to interface and find lasing solutions to the challenges confronting them.
He said: “With what is happening in the country now. We want unity and to be able to move the nation forward.”
