Vice Chancellor, University of Abuja, Prof Abdul- Rasheed Na’ Allah, yesterday said N2.5bn had been granted to the institution to construct a new Senate building with state-of-art facilities befitting a 21st century university.
The VC, during a media briefing to mark his 2nd anniversary in office, said the project, approved by the Ministry of Education through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, would take off soon.
He said the institution also got a grant close to N1bn for fencing for security purpose.
He said N150milln was granted to the university to build hostels as well as a grant to build landscape and some roads within the campus.
He said the university had shortlisted 10 investors out of the 23 that applied to build hostels for the institution.
He said over N300m granted was given to the academic staff of the university last year and that a lot had also been received this year.
Na’Allah said the Ministry of Education had approved the building of an International Conference Centre at the institution to attract high personnel.
He said construction of staff quarters was also ongoing using internal generated revenue and hoping to go into public private partnerships soon.
