The federal government has called on governors of the North-West zone to take advantage of the newly commissioned learning centre of the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NIIT) in Kano to address youth restiveness in the region.
The Minister of State for Transportation, Senator Gbemisola Saraki, made the call yesterday while commissioning the Kano outreach learning centre of the NIIT at Dawakin Kudu LGA of the state.
She said beyond taking advantage of the institute to take their youths off unemployment and empowering them with the knowledge, there is also need for the governments to provide the necessary equipment for them after their graduations.
Also speaking, the Director General of NIIT, Bayero Saliva Farah, said the institute’s centre was brought to Kano because of the state’s position as the economic hub of Northern Nigeria.
He added that the teaming unemployed youths in the entire Northwest zone will immensely benefit from the skills acquisition programmes offered at the centre.
The Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who was represented by his Deputy, Nasir Gawuna, promised that the state government will sponsor youths to enroll for the skill acquisition of the centre.
He charged the governors from the other states in the region state governor to also do same to address security challenges in the zone.
