The District Governor, Rotary international District 9125, Ayoola Oyedekun, says Nigeria will attain development when individuals embrace peace in their daily lives.
Oyedokun said this in Abuja yesterday during a press conference to commence the 2021 rotary year.
He blamed lack of tolerance among ethnic groups in the country for the rise of insecurity.
“If, as individuals, we embrace peace, Nigeria will have peace. We should embrace peace with other people in all our endeavours and when we inculcate that, we are building the culture of peace among ourselves.
“We should also encourage our children not to be part of bullies in school as they need to know what peace can achieve in their lives. If we can be peaceful among ourselves then there won’t be clamour for the embers of war at any point in time,” he said.
Oyedekun said in the Rotary’s New Year, which marked the beginning of fiscal and administrative year, he would visit over 150 clubs in 23 states in the country.
According to him, the visit is to encourage the clubs to heighten their membership drive and not to relent in their service to the society in making a change.
He further disclosed that the Rotary’s new Emeka Offor Centre would be used to promote peace and furtherance of its empowerment programmes.
