Police deploys with June 12 protesters in Jos to ward off violence

Detachments of police have been deployed with protesters in Jos to stave off violence.

Youths on Saturday morning took to the streets in Jos for the June 12 Democracy Day protests.

They have occupied the roundabout at Old Airport Junction and the flyover at Secretariat Junction.

Carrying placards, they chant solidarity songs and give speeches over megaphone.

But police are monitoring the protest closely.

Some personnel have been deployed with the protesters to ensure it does not turn violent.

Protests easily turn violent in Jos, with its history, correspondents in the city say.

Previous protests have been know to take ethno-religious dimensions, leading to loss of lives and property.
