Title chasing Kano Pillars and Nasarawa United secured slim victories yesterday to put pressure on leaders Akwa United who suffered a 1-0 defeat to Katsina United in the week 29 match played at the Dikko Muhammadu stadium in Katsina.
Samuel Kalu scored the lone goal for Katsina United from the spot in the 16th minute of the match.
Meanwhile, Akwa United’s loss provided the opportunity for both Nasarawa United and Kano Pillars to cut the ‘Promise keepers’ lead from four to one point.
Before the week 29 matches, Akwa United led the table with 53 points with Nasarawa United and Kano Pillars trailing in second and third positions on 49 points each.
However, Nasarawa United defeated Rivers United 2-1 in Lafia just as Kano Pillars edged visiting FC IfeanyiUbah 1-0 to amass 52 points same as Nasarawa United who are in second place based on superior goal difference.
In Ilorin, Michael Ohanu scored the only goal as Kwara United dimmed Sunshine Stars 1-0 to move to fourth position, Idris Mohammed Guda’s goal from the spot in the 36th minute handed Wikki Tourists the maximum points against visiting Lobi Stars, Christian Nnaji’s solitary strike in Ozoro gave Rangers 1-0 away win over Wolves while Chidera Eze and Maduforo score a goal each as Heartland quenched Mountain of Fire and Miracle (MFM) 2-0 in Okigwe.
Dakkada FC also recorded an away win as a superb volley by Isaac George in the 76th minute earned them the three points at Abia Warriors.
In Gombe, Anayo Ogbonna and Henry Ochoba scored a goal each in the first hand to help Adamawa United beat Jigawa Golden Stars 2-0 for their fifth win in 29 matches.
