The Osun State Government has shut down 600 substandard private primary and secondary schools for not meeting up with the minimum standard requirements.
The Commissioner for Education, Hon Folorunsho Bamisayemi, said the state government was waging war against quackery in the education system in the state, and that proprietors of private schools must register properly with government and fulfill necessary requirements.
Speaking at an inter-ministerial press briefing organised by the Ministry of Information and Civic Orientation in Osogbo, Bamisayemi said substandard schools would ruin the future of little children if they were allowed to continue.
He said the substandard schools were shut as part of the government’s effort to ensure sanity and sanctity in the education sector in the state.
“We are trying to eliminate quackery in the system and build a vibrant education system,” Bamisayemi said.
