Omo Eko decries delay in appointing new LASU VC

Lagos indigenes under the aegis of Omo Eko Pataki yesterday decried the continued delay in the appointment of a substantive vice chancellor for the Lagos State University.

The group said the appointment “which ordinarily should have been handled with the subsisting procedural rules and guidance has now been deliberately complicated by partisan bias and apparently untidy favoritism.”

Daily Trust reports that the group has insisted on the appointment of a Lagos indigene as the next vice-chancellor of the state-owned university.

The group equally faulted the recent constitution of the White Paper Committee, which recently submitted its report to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Also, the state House of Assembly on Wednesday waded into the issue following the protracted delay.

Trustee of ỌOmo Eko Pataki, Major- General Tajudeen Olanrewaju, rtd asked the governor to do “what is right” by appointing a qualified indigene of the state as the vice-chancellor.

The indigenes asked the governor to avoid a situation where “This needless procrastination may lead to a destructive factionalisation of the institution itself.”

“History will applaud him for making the right choice,” he added.

The group noted that each time three Lagosian natives emerged as the best “in terms of all verifiable professional qualifications.”

But it said he Visitor to the University, Governor Sanwoolu threw out the process, describing the new process as a “jamboree.”
