MFM squeeze past Wikki Tourists 1-0 in delayed week 28 fixture

Lagos based MFM FC have climbed up to 10th position on the Nigeria Professional Football League table following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Wikki Tourists yesterday.

The Olukoya Boys as MFM are called had their match initially scheduled for Sunday evening moved to yesterday morning due to heavy downpour which left the Soccer Temple stadium soaked and unplayable.

Seven minute after kick-off, Wikki Tourists had their first chance at goal but Ismail Sale’s long range shot went wide.

Six minutes later, Wikki goalkeeper, Ibrahim Pius made a double save, with the first coming from Oladayo Alabi who stung his palms with a ferocious strike and the follow-up from Akanni Elijah.

Both sides made concerted efforts to open the scoring but their efforts didn’t yield the desired results as the half ended 0-0.

At the start of the second half, MFM thought they had gotten a penalty after Roland Precious went down in the box but the referee called for a goal kick.

In the 56th minute, the deadlock was finally broken when MFM Captain Kenedinum Nelson scored after Wikki Tourists goalkeeper Ibrahim Pius fumbled a direct free-kick.

After the goal, Wikki coach Baba Jibrin made some changes but his lads were unable to prevent the visitors from suffering their 15th loss of the season.

Wikki are now languishing in the 16th position with only two points above the relegation zone.

MFM FC have now kept seven clean sheets in nine games in the second stanza.

They will travel to Okigwe to trade tackles with Heartland in week 29.
