Driver killed, 7 injured as bus rammed into petrol tanker

A yet-to-be-identified bus driver has died while seven passengers sustained injuries after a bus rammed into a petrol tanker from behind at Abaji, along the Abuja-Lokoja road.

A witness said the accident happened around 6:12 am yesterday when the J5 Fiat bus with registration number MAN 327 XA on speed from Lokoja axis rammed into a Daf tanker with registration number MGN 22 AA from behind.

He said the driver, who was trapped against the steering died instantly, while seven passengers sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital by men of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in the area.

The Abaji unit commander of the FRSC, ACC Abubakar Shehu Dogondaji, confirmed the incident, which he attributed to speed limit violation and loss of control.

He said the corpse of the bus driver has been deposited at Abaji General Hospital morgue, while the seven injured were receiving treatment at the same hospital.
