The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has questioned the unusually high number of new voter registrations reported by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the Southwest.
In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said the figures released by INEC for the first week of pre-registration were “statistically implausible” and could undermine confidence in the electoral process.
According to INEC’s data, Osun State alone recorded over 393,000 new registrations in one week—higher than the total number of voters it registered in the last four years combined. The ADC argued that such figures do not align with the state’s voting history or demographic realities.
The party also pointed out that the Southwest accounted for about 72% of all pre-registrations nationwide within the same period, while other regions recorded very low numbers.
The ADC urged INEC to immediately explain the discrepancies and conduct a forensic audit of the data, warning that flaws in the voter register could threaten the credibility of future elections.
