The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, on Friday ordered Christopher Owolabi to take over as the new Commissioner of Police Anambra State Police Command.

The redeployment is coming amidst several attacks on police formations in the South East region of the country allegedly carried out by members of proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Daily Trust reports that Owolabi takes over on Monday from Bala Kuryas, who has been redeployed to the Anti-Fraud Section of the Force Headquarters Annex, Lagos.

A statement made available to journalists by Force spokesman, Frank Mba, said “This is ultimately designed to improve the operational efficiency of the command and enhance public safety and security.”

Similarly, the IGP ordered the posting of other strategic and tactical commanders within the zones with two Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), 14 Assistant Commissioners of Police and other mid-level officers affected.

The police boss charged the new CP in Anambra State to take adequate measures in consolidating and improving on the gains of his predecessor.
