At least 8 people were killed and over 100 kidnapped as bandits raided Shadadi village of Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State.

BBC Hausa reported that the bandits in hundreds raided the town on Wednesday and that thousands of people had flew the village and relocated to nearby towns especially in Kwantagora Local Government.

Speaking to BBC Hausa in confidence, a member of the community said “Over 1000 bandits on motorcycles raided our village on Wednesday.

“They killed 8 people while 4 were injured. Also over 100 of our people were abducted and presently in the bandits’ den.

“Presently in Shadadi only one out of 10% of our people are in the village. All have fled to nearby towns.

“People are leaving for Kwantagora on cars, motorcycles, tricycles and more.

“Some didn’t even know where they are going to,” the man said.

When contacted by the BBC Hausa, the commissioner for information of the state, Alhaji Sani Idris, said the number of people abducted in the village is not up to 100.

“Yes we are still counting to confirm the exact number of people abducted. But it is not that they are up to 100 as spread by people.

“The GOC one mechanized division in Kaduna has come and we discussed on how we can work all together with the federal government to solve the problem,” he added.
