About 45 youths from the Northern parts of the country have been arrested in the Okitipupa area of Ondo State.

Our correspondent reports that the youths who arrived in the area in a trailer on Thursday were arrested by operatives of the Ondo State Security Network, Amotekun, on suspicions that they were herdsmen.

However, the police in Ondo have said the northern youths were in the state in search of jobs and not herdsmen as suspected.

A spokesman for the Ondo State Police command, Tee Leo Ikoro told Daily Trust on Sunday yesterday that the youths who arrived in trailers were not from the north alone but also from other parts of the country.

According to Ikoro the men said they got information the Nigerian Navy in Okitipupa was training men to be used as security guards for oil companies, an information which later turned out to be untrue.

He said they are presently in the custody of Amotekun operatives.

Speaking on the development, the chairman, Okitipupa Local Government, Mr Igbekele Akinrinwa, who addressed the people at the scene of the incident, alleged that it was an indigene of the town that facilitated the travellers trip to the town.
