2023: Why Bauchi gov dissolved cabinet

Fresh facts have emerged on why Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State sacked members of his cabinet and other key political appointees in the state.

The Special Adviser Media and Publicity to the governor,  Mukhtar Gidado, in a statement, said  aside commissioners, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Sabiu Baba, the Chief of Staff (Government House), Ladan Salihu and all Special Advisers with the exception of Special Advisers on Security and National, State Assembly Liaison, Social Investment, and Media and Publicity, were also relieved of their appointments.

Sources within the state government circle told our correspondent that the sacking of the appointees was part of the governor’s reorganisation and strategies towards the 2023 general elections.

One of the sources said most of the sacked aides were cronies of stakeholders from different political camps who teamed-up with Bala Mohammed in 2019 to displace the immediate past administration in the state.

“The governor is trying to bring in people who will work for him and not those who will work for those who brought them to the government,” he said.

Recall that the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, who played a key role in the emergence of Bala Mohammed has since clashed with the governor.

Another source, who does not want to be named, corroborated the governor’s moves to inject new people into the system as a second winning strategy.

Contacted, however, the governor’s media aide, Mukhtar Gidado, said the dissolution of the cabinet was to consolidate and strengthen governance in the state.
